The Lills 5th Wedding Anniversary | The Smoky Mountains

For our fifth wedding anniversary we headed to North Carolina to take in some mountain air. We boarded the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, enjoyed first class and took in some spectacular views, like the Nantahala Gorge.

Although the water was noted as 32 degrees, we plunged ourselves into white water rapids on a funyak, provided by Carolina Outfitters. Surrounded by stunning mountains and amazing wildlife, we made our way down the river to the landing. Right on the water were fun places to eat and relax. We played darts at Pizza by the River and had some North Carolina BBQ, while watching more funyaks and rafts take on the white water.

We drove on Lakeview Drive, also known as the road to nowhere, which led us to a scenic lookout and dead ended us at an incredible 1940′s tunnel that had never been completed.

Our adventure continued with a quick stop at a local antique shop, horseback riding in the mountains and a wonderful stay at the Hideaway Cabin, provided by Bryson City Cabins. On our last evening we even got to experience fire fly season in the mountains. We were surrounded and for miles we could see the lights blinking, like morse code. It was a beautiful way to end our anniversary adventure.

Many thanks to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, Carolina Outfitters, Sack’s BBQ, Lonesome Dove Stables and Bryson City Cabin Rentals for a wonderful time!

Web Design & Video for The Magic Bean in Quito, Ecuador

In beautiful Quito, Ecuador there is an incredible place called The Magic Bean. Travelers from around the world find their way there to enjoy good eats, drinks and relax while on their adventures.

At The Magic Bean you can expect to find organic fare, a term not often used by locals as most of their food has always been organic and remains so. The outdoor bar features fresh squeezed juices, real fruit smoothies and specialty coffees. One of the best parts about The Magic Bean is the hostel, offering a wonderful place to sleep in the heart of Quito, Ecuador.

Although this restaurant, coffee house and hostel has been a traveler fan-favorite for years and worthy of the enthusiasm, their website didn’t capture the essence of The Magic Bean. It was our job to design a captivating, all-new brand (new logo, English/Spanish website, graphics & video).

The Magic Bean Restaurant & Hostel | Quito, Ecuador Web Design | Logo Design | Graphic Design | Photo/Video by The Lills Design

The Magic Bean had used a poem by Shel Silverstein on the website and t-shirts. We thought it was a great idea to not only carry it into the new website, but design a beautiful custom logo, graphics and animated video, all in a style resembling Shel’s. See the animated video we created below:

If you’re looking for a fun place to travel to, put Quito, Ecuador on your list and go visit The Magic Bean Restaurant, Coffee House & Hostel while you’re there!

Spartina 449 Video

Spartina 449 is one of the fastest growing companies in South Carolina & the U.S. Their line of handbags, jewelry, scarves and other accessories are all inspired by Daufuskie Island in SC. The brand has been featured in national magazines like People Stylewatch, US Weekly, Redbook Magazine, Inc. 500 & Forbes.

For their Fall / Winter Collection, Spartina 449 handpicked Lara Lill to model the new line of products, like their new “Quilted” handbag series. The Lills Design went behind the scenes on Daufuskie Island to capture the photo shoot and create a video for Spartina 449. See the video we created below:

We boarded the charming Haig Point Ferry at 6:30am, landed on historic Daufuskie Island (only 8 miles long and with only 250 residents) and spent the day bouncing to different beautiful locations.

The island is private, rustic and a perfect example of island living in the Carolinas. There isn’t a road or bridge connecting the island to the main land, so we traveled by golf cart from Haig Point to the beautiful fountain and enjoyed being lifted to other areas of the island, like the equestrian facility & beach, by an electric-run VW bus.

We had a great time exploring the island and enjoyed hearing some of the Daufuskie stories that inspire the Spartina 449 brand. For their Fall line they offered a handbag called “Mary Lavinia”, another “Stoddard Houndstooth”. Mary was a true person, who lived on Daufuskie in a house called Melrose Mansion with her stylish beau, Jon Stoddard. Each piece creatively showcases the island, it’s heritage & sophistication.
